DIY T-shirt Dog Toy!

Does your pup need a new toy? Make a rope bone of your old t-shirts! I found this project in Carol Sirrine's book, Cool Crafts With Old T-Shirts: Green Projects for Resourceful Kids.

You will need:

- Two T-shirts -  preferably XL. One XL shirt and one smaller shirt will work, too. Do not use any screen-printed areas for the project! Use areas that are free of screen-printing.
- Cutting surface, ruler and scissors/rotary cutter
- Masking tape

Find two old t-shirts. At least one should be XL.

Cut off the bottom hem of the shirts

If using two different sized shirts, cut the largest shirt into 3 inch strips.

Cut each strip into two equal-sized strips by cutting each end apart.

Cut the smaller shirt into 3 inch strips. Do not cut the smaller-sized shirt strips in two!

Lay out the strips from the larger shirt. Take one strip from the smaller shirt, cut open one end and measure the strip against the strips from the larger shirt. Cut to the same length as the larger shirt strips. Repeat.

Lay out 9 strips into three piles. Each pile should have three strips; one of one color, two of the other color.

Pull on the ends of each strip. This will cause the strip to roll in on itself.

Use masking tape to tape the ends of the first set of three strips together.

Use a second piece of tape to adhere the strip to a surface. Braid tightly. Wrap the second piece of tape around the end of the first braid.

Repeat until you have three braids. Tape the ends of the three braids together.

Braid the three braids into one large braid. Tape the end of the large braid.

Knot both ends.

Remove all the tape. Using both hands, pull the knots apart so that the knots are closer to the ends of the braid.

Trim if necessary.

Play with your pup!
